i have decided that i need to start living a much more exciting life so that i have cool stories to tell you all on this here blog. we have been lying pretty low lately and our activities around here don't really make for riveting blog entries. unless you want to hear about going to the gym, the park, the grocery store, the coffee shop, vacuuming my living room, changing diapers, cooking dinner and doing loads and loads of laundry...maybe with a nap and a shower thrown in there somewhere. if you do want to hear these stories, please call me. i have a ton more just like it! in the meantime i will try, just for you, to do something fun and exciting this weekend so that i have an awesome post for you sometime next week. or perhaps i will start looking for a job as a secret agent or something like that. now that would make for great stories...probably even just the job search alone. although, once i get the job i likely won't be able to talk to you about it. and if i do i will probably have to kill you...this is starting to sound like a bad idea. i guess i'll just stick with my regular life and hope that some sort of crazy antics happen while i am cleaning the bathroom today!

things i am loving this week:

~ coffee. i need to cough it up and buy a new coffee maker. i want a good one. a really good one. you figure coffee at a coffee shop is at least $3 a pop, so we can spend $150 on a coffee maker and not feel too bad about it, right? suggestions and recommendations would be appreciated!

~ short work weeks. feels like a tuesday, but it's really a wednesday!

~ camping season. we have our first tentative trip planned for next week!!!

~ wedding planning. i have been planning a wedding in my head (and via pinterest) for a while now. but now i actually am planning it. really planning it!

tuesday remix: sister style

what a gloriously long weekend we just had. it was pretty perfect. jim and i took advantage of some rainy weather to get a bunch of stuff done around the house. we took advantage of some seriously hot and humid weather to lay around in the backyard and do not much of anything but watch our adorable and hilarious daughter splash around in her pool. and yesterday's weather was perfect for throwing a little barbecue in our backyard with some of our dearest friends and family. it is so awesome to have family that i consider best friends and dear friends that i consider family. what a wonderful thing! i am so lucky to have such amazing people in my life. i love just sitting around and eating and drinking and laughing about nothing and everything all at the same time. there's really nothing better. i hope you all had a wonderful weekend, as well!

i got lucky again this week. megan chose the remix item, an adorable vintage jacket she found at a garage sale, and she (one again!) said i could keep it. seriously, i love doing this remix mostly because i keep getting free clothes from megan! so awesome. i hope you like it as much as i do. let us know what you think!

this weekend has been a whirlwind of weather. saturday morning started off great, nora and the kids and i went to a few garage sales before it started pouring rain. then it stopped. so i took the kids for a bike ride. and it started again. so we biked and splashed in the rain. then sunday came and it was gorgeous and sunny. we played outside all day. swing sets and gardens and bikes. at 5:00, we headed to a friend's house to have a picnic. we brought the double stroller since we knew we'd probably each have a drink or two. at about 10, after this glorious sunny and hot day, we packed the kids in the stroller and started walking home. two miles...we almost had it. until we got three blocks from home and it started pouring. it was at this point that i realized that i still needed to take pictures for inspiration monday. so here you have it: my outfit...a little bit wet, a lot dark, a little drunk, but it's here.

new loves and old friends: bug-eyed

first off, i would like to personally congratulate megan and chris on their engagement! i am so very happy and excited for their family! they are such an amazing couple who have created a seriously amazing family together. i completely look up to both of them for the fabulous parents they are and admire their relationship and i couldn't be happier for them taking this next step. i already consider chris my brother, but it'll be nice to have it be official. plus, they are sure to throw one awesome party of a wedding! so excited!!! congratulations, megan and chris! i love you! (and don't even get me started on that ring...so gorgeous).

anyway...the last time she was in town, my little sister brought home a bunch of her clothes and accessories for megan and i to fight over. these sunglasses were in the pile and i grabbed them immediately, but when i put them on and wasn't so sure if i liked them on me. i thought, perhaps, i looked a little extremely bug-eyed. but my little sister insisted that she liked them, so i took them home. a few days later when i asked my hubby to take these outfit photos, i grabbed the shades because i was sans make up (yikes!). i put them on and jim just immediately started shaking his head (and he might have looked a little disgusted??? or maybe that's just my hormones talking???) and informed me that he did not think these were the sunglasses for me. why am i telling you this boring story, you ask? because i need your opinions! should i keep the sunglasses or pass them along to someone else? please be honest. you won't hurt my feelings if you tell me i look like a bug. (okay, maybe you will a little bit, but i asked for it, right???) thanks, everyone!

well who's ready for a huge party? cause i'm getting married!!

yep, that's right. you heard  read that correctly. after eight-plus years, two kids, two houses, one dog, and three months of chris carrying a ring in his pocket every day, he finally asked me to marry him.

if you follow me on instagram (@meglets), then you may already know this, as i was posting like a mad woman the other day. but why wouldn't i? i'm just so excited!

chris and i have always been fine not being married. we decided we wanted to have both kids before getting married. and then a friend of mine told me that as a teacher, she sees how hard it is on kids to not have their parents have the same last name. i now don't actually think this is true (or maybe true for children of divorced parents??), but it scared me enough to start thinking about it. so i told chris that i would like to get married before henry started kindergarten. well, henry will be starting second grade this fall. so that didn't happen.

did i mention that chris' nickname, since he was a child, is pokey? he has that nickname for a reason. so i got a lot of jokes about milk and cows. and i had a lot of difficulty when making appointments for my kids at the dentist...because apparently we each have to sign affidavits that the other parent can legally make appointments for, and bring their kids to the dentist. (i understand this rule, but it was still a bureaucratic nightmare for us.)

so the 'before kindergarten' thing didn't happen. and then i was all weird and decided that i didn't want to get married in 2013, but i also wanted to get married before i was 40. so that left 2012. which is now. and we wanted a summer wedding, which is next month. so chris bought a ring in february, and made huge plans to ask me. and as we were dropping the kids off at grandma and grandpa's house, i got a call from my little sister saying she just got engaged. so the ring went back into chris' pocket and stayed there snuggly for three months.

until may 20.

and now it's on my finger, and i couldn't be more excited.

and suddenly, getting married in 2013 doesn't seem so weird to me anymore!

~ this weather! it has been perfect. 80s and sunny with a nice breeze. perfect! mimi and i have just been playing outside all day, every day except when we're at the gym or napping.

~ naps. naps are amazing.

~ the guy at dairy queen messed up my order last night and gave me something called the peanut butter bust (or some silly name like that). let's just say, i found my new favorite treat at dq.

~ this picture of my little girl mowing the lawn with her dada warms my heart. so sweet!
