there are a few things i get better at the more i drink. darts, bowling (any pub game that involves aim), and karaoke. and that is about it. i realized last night that the reason i get better is because of the liquid courage. (or maybe it's just that i think i'm good because i'm drunk.) we went to a karaoke bar last night and i immediately put my name in for my go-to song, total eclipse of the heart. i assumed i would be in a long queue and that i would have time to have a couple of beers before i had to "perform". nope, i was in the hole. i started to get nervous and sweaty. and then i realized that there must be a whole glee club at the bar because everyone before me had fantastic voices. i'm never the best voice in the bar, but i'm rarely the worst. i was last night. i got up to sing and my knees were literally knocking together.
the good news is that while i get better as the night goes on, apparently the glee club gets worse. i needed to vindicate myself, so i thought long and hard on how i could do that. i went with my old stand-by, me and bobbie mcgee, and i think i did it. i even got a few random hugs when i was done.
what's your go-to karaoke song?
xoxo,
two birds

Haha, awesome! I would have run out of the bar if I got called up before getting a few drinks in me. Kevin and I always sing 'Fight for your right to party' and I've been known to sing 'manic monday' a few times...
ReplyDeleteYou both look so cute! Love the look of chunky shoes with a lightweight dress.
LOL @ your liquid courage karaoke! I love to watch people do the karaoke but I have stage fright even if the stage is only like 2 by 5 lol.
ReplyDeleteLove both of your looks! Both pairs of shoes are great!
My go-to song is 9-5 by the lovely Dolly Parton. Liquid courage is helpful though.:)
ReplyDeleteWow! Those booties are incredible. Love.

High five to anyone with the guts to do karaoke! I have an irrational fear of singing in front of people (but no fear of public speaking, go figure), so I'm always impressed with people who can.
ReplyDeleteYou guys really do have the best shoe collection!
You know it's funny, I am a singer, I studied voice in college - but I'm a "church" singer, so doing karaoke? Yep, I get nervous and need that liquid courage too! My go to song is "What's Up" by Four Non Blondes. I haven't gone in the longest time, might have to remedy that soon!
ReplyDeleteI love both of your booties - Nora those fringe ones are insane!! I also love your red belt Megan!
GOOD MORNING! I feel like crap(boobs hurt still getting better) but you both look gorgeous. Love the boots Nora and legs of course, the dress looks great on you. Megan love this overall look especially the red belt, necklace and shoes. Accessories are great! I love your story Megan, love that karaoke song too. I usuallygetthepoop feeling when I have to sing but that's just fear of not sounding good and being judged. I want to try that song now. I sing the fuji's Killing me softly or Roberta Flack's version. boring. I need new Karaoke songs. Sounds like so much fun girl... dawn suitcase vignettes xo
ReplyDeleteThose fringed hot pink boots are AMAZING! I admire anyone who has the courage to sing Karaoke... I'm the one that just watches :)

I knew what this post was about just by reading the title. I think you probably killed it with Total Eclipse (you usually do) but you are more critical of yourself when you aren't drunk :)
ReplyDeleteoh man, i am totally loving both these outfits. you birds killed it today!!
ReplyDeleteOh I love both of these! Love those pink boots so much fun!

Really great outfits - those pink boots are so uplifting - love them!
ReplyDeleteMegan, I love the dress! what fab colors. And Nora, those boots are a serious WOW!!! Where did your sisters get them? They're amazing!!!

You both look so springy and fun in those dresses! I am the WORST singer in the world, I have a deep voice and I'm totally tone-deaf... I need way more than a few beers to sing in public at all! However, a gay friend and I often do duets (like "Islands in the Stream" and I do the boy parts and he does the girl parts... I'm a much better singer when I don't have to try to hit the high notes!)
ReplyDeleteOh how cute!!!!! Love both looks! Nora your boots are FAB!!!!!! I'd really like red boots! Megan, your blue and red combo is really striking- I think they go really well together!
ReplyDeleteI'm scared of Karaoke. Ask me to sing a solo in front of a packed audience in a musical or in church or in front of 500 children, fine. Ask me to sing karaoke, I'm a cringing wreck! I hate close microphones and the whole context of it! I don't have that type of voice!!! I sang, "Somebody to love" at the last one I went to (thanks to Miss Anne Hathaway's Ella enchanted appearance, I gave it a go- she has a similar voice to me!) and I felt a complete plonker and sure I sounded it!
This was a tough challenge for me. I almost did not want to do it but then I remembered I had something tucked away in my closet! It is so clever of you Megan to put a red belt on the dress. And Nora, I love your fringed boots, they are so wild! Love the colour! Good on ya for being such a good sport, singing despite not feeling confident. Total Eclipse of the Heart is a hard song to sing! I used to sing in my past life so getting on the stage to do karaoke is quite relaxing and fun but I don't get to do it as often now.
ReplyDeleteOmg I'm the opposite...I stand in front of the mic after a few drinks and whatever comes out of my mouth is BAD. I swear I'm a better singer when I'm sober haha. Beautiful looks as usual ladies - so perfect.

Not even liquid courage gets me to sing karaoke! :) Love both your looks!
ReplyDeleteI love both of your shoes. It is hard for me to get brave enough for karaoke, but bowling is always better when I have beer.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful inspiration! You both rocked the look so perfectly. Those pink shoes are INSANELY wonderful.
ReplyDeleteAwesome booties! Thanks for the inspiration.
ReplyDeleteYou are so brave! I haven't gone karaoke in a while but my go to karaoke song is Barry Manilow Copacabana and Gloria Gaynor's I will Survive.
For some reason I can only sing in front of children and I've never been able to sing in front of adults in public!! So I was a moron and accidentally left the powercord on my laptop in Alaska! Augh! I got dressed and everything but no posts for a while for me. Maybe I'll dress like Kerry Washington all week to make up for it.

Great thrift finds!! I suck at karaoke...drinks or no drinks. My go to song is Sonny and Cher "I got you Babe"---that way my husband can make up for me sucking.

When it comes to karaoke, I go for a song that people know, but one that people wouldn't expect. And I've found that "Teenage Dirtbag" by Wheetus is PERFECT for that. Most everyone remembers it from the 90s, but they don't really remember how it is supposed to sound, so if I screw it up, I'm the only one that knows. I've found that it is always useful to have a shot ready to go for when they announce you are in the hole, haha! Gotta love that liquid courage!
ReplyDeletecomfortable, casual coolness times 2! i want those fringed pink booties. where can i find some? i think i died & gone to these boots were made for walking heaven.
